So true, Daniel — great beauty is often comparative. But I would be surprised if we couldn’t find some degree of beauty in most things — even that which is extremely ugly at first glance. Tokyo is in fact an ugly city, but you can find pockets of beauty everywhere. Most people have beauty of some sort — it may be a softening of the eyes, or a shy smile, or a kind act. Sometimes, beauty is marred by ugly behaviour. Of course, beauty is very subjective too. For instance, I am sure that there must someone who would love the aesthetic of the many appliances I have rejected — lol
