I fully agree with everything you say — especially the part about overloading the page with information — as you say, it is not likely to be read… but without it seems lacking or unprofessional. It is partly cultural, but also related to differing readability of text per language.
Being immersed in another culture really does bring new insight and perspectives, doesn’t it? For instance, we are taught ‘white space’ is good design in school. But there is less understanding as to why the need for it evolved i.e. the limitation of English syntax from design perspective… that is going into uncharted territory I fear…
I tried not to overload the article too much by digging into the psyche of Japanese or Western mindset — but perhaps I will develop a follow up article in future :)
