Conquer Irrational Fears That Hold You Back
Looking back over the stories I published in October, one theme stands out — a call to action to overcome fear.
As humans, we have an immense capacity to overcome challenges, including our own self-imposed limits. It all comes down to mindset. How you choose to perceive your world and how you respond to events in your life.
Here is a personal example.
Human vs. Mountain
This past summer I went hiking in the Japan Northern Alps with a friend. We had chosen a challenging hike. It turned out far more difficult than either of us anticipated.
After 6 hours steady climbing, we rested overnight in a mountain hut (the one with the red roof shown in the photo). At sunrise, we set off again. Our goal was to conquer the larger mountain looming above us, Mt Goryu (2,814m).
As we ascended through the mist I began to second-guess myself. There was a lot of clambering over boulders and sheer drops. Less than halfway, the weather closed in. Visibility was low. It felt dangerous. My friend turned back (she never made it to the top).
Most people choose safety over uncertainty. But do safe choices always bring you happiness in life?
